Transformative Learning for Afghan Girls

In 2023, SOLA received an astounding 1950 applications for just 30 available spots at our campus in Rwanda. This was an exponential increase from our previous admissions season, and we see and honor every individual behind it: every girl who applied, every father and mother and sibling who believed in her, every family member who was dedicated then and remains dedicated now to the certainty that girls’ education is the driver of a better future.

At SOLAx, we share this dedication. Our commitment to tomorrow is reflected in our commitment to digitize and deliver the Afghan curriculum on our WhatsApp-based online chatbot, SOLAx. Schools for girls may be closed in Afghanistan, but we are acting to ensure continuous access to education.

Learning Framework

Our team is diligently digitizing the Afghan curriculum to offer online courses for Grades 7 through 12, covering subjects including science, math, social science, Dari, Pashto, Islamic Studies, and more.

The courses incorporate ample practice exercises and quizzes, promoting deliberate practice and the application of knowledge. To make learning enjoyable, our courses integrate audio-visuals, podcasts, and quick checks, allowing students to enroll, practice, attempt quizzes, and earn certificates directly from their mobile phones within the safety of their homes.

ESL for Students

Additionally, SOLAx proudly presents English as a Second Language (ESL) courses aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR levels) for students in grades 7 through 12. The courses for junior grades are instructed in English, Dari, and Pashto, while senior grades use English as the primary language.

We also offer pre-assessment for English proficiency to assist learners in selecting the appropriate SOLAx-CEFR level course based on their skill level.

At SOLAx, we are proud to integrate National Geographic Society’s Explorer Mindset Learning Framework and Globally Inclusive Learning Design into our educational approach, prioritizing critical thinking, empathy, and inquiry over traditional memorization. The curriculum has been thoughtfully crafted to be inclusive and engaging, and seamlessly blend Afghan national standards with international benchmarks to facilitate a seamless transition for students to traditional or online educational environments.

Supported by the National Geographic Society, we offer distinctive storytelling courses designed to enable Afghan girls, helping them to discover and leverage the power of their voices. We aim to continue working closely with National Geographic, utilizing the wealth of their online educational resources to deliver an unparalleled educational journey for our students.

At SOLAx we know that educated women become leaders, teachers, and catalysts for change. They are the ones who can help shape a better future for their country.

Our path is clear. We hope you will join us on this journey.
